Department Five tells a story full of passion that goes back to the late 70’s Riviera, where Mario Cangini and Nicola Silvagni met around the historical store SPACE, an unquestioned authority and a real landmark in the development of the fashion culture in Italy. Their work collaboration soon became a true friendship, creating a common ground made of outstanding aesthetics, passionate research and the genuine ability to foresee phenomena in fashion that led them to create Department Five in 2007, first only as a “playground” to experiment and materialize ideas in fashion with few signature garments.
The extent of the success of these experiments was such that it brought constant growth around DP5, until the turning point, when the company became a structured brand in 2013.
Department Five is manufactured by Catria Confezioni SPA group, an italian company established in the 70’s with a great experience in technical and innovative solutions for fashion. The group also consists of the unmatchable expertise in laundry and dyeing that comes from Lavanderia Adriatica Company.
Based in the Marche region, DP5 concept is deeply rooted in a non-compromise approach on premium fabrics and high quality production processes, where craftsmanship skills meet state of the art tech solutions, from cutting and tailoring to dyeing, ironing and modeling.
The Department Five vision materializes in timeless garments for both men and women, characterized by a blend of military influences, workwear elements and great attention to detail in terms of functionality and practicality, aimed by the focus of bringing out the best of both menswear and womenswear worlds.
Department Five is also characterized by a multisensory approach when it comes to materializing feelings in clothing. A key role is played in this sense by the importance of music, a true muse that through stories, emotions, past and present subcultures leads the DP5 collective to imagine the future.
